Netrunner

About the game

Netrunner, in case you don't know, is by far the best boardgame in the universe. Asymmetrical, card driven game, in which one of the players controls the mega-corporation, trying to progress it's own agendas; while the other player controls the hacker, trying to steal precious corps secrets. If you want to know more about Netrunner (and yes, you do) Quinns from Shut up and sit down wrote a nice article about it here and there.

My part

I remember it well - back in 2012, during x-mass, me and my friends, we played it all days long, trying to figure out how to effectively spend clicks and what cards to put in the deck. It made our hearts go wild, increasing the adrenaline with every turn. Enough to say, after playing few games of Netrunner we had to break for a while, drink coffee, cool down. Such an intense time it was (Lex + Kate: I will always keep those precious moments deep in my heart)

And it lasts until today. Tomorrow there's an event in my local meta, first time since 2020 (well, thank you, covid). Getting my rig ready, fingers crossed!

Deckbuilding, yay

History

Originally designed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the coast in nineties, to be recycled (pun intended) by FFG in 2012. Finally being developed by a fan community (Nisei).

When news about abandoning Netrunner by FFG broke out, it was devastating. To many it meant no more no less than - collect all the remaining cards left asap. And many did, me included.

Not long after that, community spawned entity called the Nisei was created (titled after Nisei MK2). In the beginning many disbelieved that it will manage to run the game effectively and die out quickly. But here we are, 4 years after the great collapse of FFGs Netrunner, and Nisei is still doing an amazing job keeping the game alive. Always be running!

Support

The game itself has great support from fans:

  1. NetrunnerDB (deckbuilding utility),
  2. Always be running (event utility)
  3. Jinteki.net (online game implementation)
  4. cobr.ai (tournament management)
